Off to Whangamata next Tuesday for a bit of a break. A traditional spot for us. Time to immerse ourselves in "place" - beach, bush walks, family, friends, relaxing, talking, listening, poetry, and books, listening to music, and the odd glass or so of wine...
A relaxing evening last night - a bottle of Chimay - no steak and cream - just chicken breasts stuffed with ham and cheese on a bed of fresh salad, and mango icecream for dessert (comparisons in real time, one of the benefits of recieving e-mails from friends when you're writing a post). Yesterday evening was spent watching one of the great British programmes/series that are on our "Kiwi" televisions at the moment - for years now, Kathryn and I have enjoyed watching crime/detective movies, e.g. Morse starring the late John Thaw and set in Oxford, etc. Last night is was Midsummer Murders featuring Detective Chief Inspector Barnaby and Detective Sergeant Troy. Tonight it's a new series too our screens, Waking the Dead about an English forensic unit. And then there are the great one-off British TV movies. They engage us, we enter into the story, we try to 'out-detective' the detectives, to look for the signs, to deduce the murderer and the motive; we share what we're thinking, we participate, we try to make some shape out of the parts, we're invovlved. We celebrate if we get it right! Sounds like some insights for church amongst that.
do you get Prime Suspect over there? We loved Morse for years (envied his car too!) but P.S is much more gritty; v. good drama. Have a good break. :)

Maggi, "No," I don't recall having seen "Prime Suspect." Will keep an eye out for it.
