Chris Marshall - For God’s Sake: Terrorism, Religious Violence, and Restorative Justice

Chrismarshall_2

For the last week or so I’ve been repeatedly immersing myself in an audio recording of Dr. Chris Marshall’s excellent lecture: For God’s Sake: Terrorism, Religious Violence, and Restorative Justice. Delivered at the international New Frontiers in Restorative Justice conference, Massey University, 2-5th December 2004.

A nice, clear CD recording of the lecture ("talk") can be purchased from Auckland Recording Services Ltd (David Hardgrave) e-mail totalrecall@xtra.co.nz. Cost within NZ is NZ$14.00 + $5 courier. I’m sure David can arrange to send them to overseas addresses. Contact him. The CD is well worth a listen, referencing the current conflict in Iraq and more generally the so-called "war against terrorism."

Dr Chris Marshall has recently been appointed as Senior Lecturer in Christian Theology at Victoria University of Wellington. His publications include the groundbreaking study Beyond Retribution: A New Testament Vision for Justice, Crime and Punishment (Eerdmans, 2001 / follow the link for a pdf. download of chapter 1). He has also been involved in community-based restorative justice practice for several years. In January 2004, he received an International Community Justice Award, presented by Princess Anne, in recognition of his scholarly and practical contribution to the cause of restorative justice.

If you go here ( http://www.vuw.ac.nz/religion/courses/index.html ) you can see two of the courses Chris is teaching this year at Vic :
RELI 250 Studies in Christian Theology: Jesus, The Gospels and the Coming of God

and

RELI 350 Studies in Christian Theology: Paul, the First Christian Theologian

I've done equivalent courses taught by Chris and I'd recommend them.

he must be holy, he has a great name :)
