Obedient Doers

St_antony

Less words more Christian orthopraxy? Less words about "emerging church" and more doing?

Some brothers…went to Abba Felix and they begged him to say a word to them. Bu the old man kept silence. After they had asked for a long time he said to them, “you wish to hear a word?” They said, “yes, Abba.” Then the old man said to them, “There are no more words nowadays. When the brothers used to consult the old men and when they did what was said to them, God showed them how to speak. But now, since they ask without doing that which they hear, God has withdrawn the grace of the word from the old men and they do not find anything to say, since there are no longer any who carry their words out. Hearing this, the brothers groaned, saying “Pray for us, Abba.”

Great post! Great quote... well said.

Trouble is that most of the traditional church doesn't even know it needs an emerging church. Most are blissfully unaware that there is a ravine between church and contemporary culture. The orthodox church doesn't even accept it needs to bridge the cultural gap..... so we shouldn't be too silent...

great quote Paul...sometimes I wonder if we haven't exhausted God with all talk and conversation. Maybe he hasn't only removed his word...but also removed his hand, because he's got his fingers in his ears. Put your quote with a link on my site...hope you don't mind. But it was quite relevant to a short post I had earlier called...If.

Ian, an interesting take on the story. I certainly agree with your comment about ravine.
