Jonny Baker: Mission-Shaped

Paul writes Jonny Baker features in the clip shown above (just over 9 minutes in length). It gives a great insight into “mission shaped” church in the UK – some of its successes and some of its challenges. He also helpfully talks about the significance of the established or “institutional church” and its importance to creative and innovative mission-shaped ways of being church.

What is happening in the UK (CofE) continues to encourage me down here in Cambridge, New Zealand – hardly a hub of missional activity – but some long-term thinking and listening has been happening. Some good conversations have been had… and who knows… maybe in the next couple of years, we’ll have some great stories of creativity, partnership, God@work, courageous leadership, and risk taking from our little part of the Anglican Communion to share with others…?

Jonny is a smart thinker and creative “doer” and “improviser” of church and mission in Western Culture. Jonny lives in London and works in Oxford for CMS. He’s been one of the “global voices” linked to on this blog since it’s inception over five-years ago. Cheers Jonny; good to “see” and “hear” you again. Jonny is doing a workshop on alt.worship (you’ll recall that he’s the co-author of the excellent Alternative Worship (2003) in Melbourne in June. For more information, contact the very innovative Cheryl Lawrie…contact details at the very bottom of her blog.
