A recent question, “Had I read Watership Down (the novel by Richard Adams),” from Chris Erdmanand Chris’ inclusion of Watership Down in his upcoming Missional Leadership course sent me looking for an article I had read some years ago that included an interesting reflection on Watership Down. .
Anyway, I found it – an essay by Scott Cowdell who at the time of writing was the Rector of All Saints’ Anglican Church in Brisbane. The essay was entitled The Postmodern Church and was written in 1997. Published in the St. Mark’s Review, summer 1997, its use of Watership Down ‘sparked’ my imagination. It also reminded my of the way a movie like Chicken Run helps us to think about missional leadership too.
Might it have something to say to our own contexts: de-churched, mainline, and emerging…?
