Paul writes – In a year that has already had it’s fair-share of sad news – the illnesses of wonderful friends - the best piece of “good news” I’ve had this year was the decision to proceed with film adaptation of Mike Riddell’s novel Insatiable Moon. It’s a big decision – in economic times such as these, but is one that I’m absolutely convinced that, with the benefit of hindsight, will prove to have been a very significant and important decision. Insatiable Moon is a rich and multilayered “kiwi” story set in Ponsonby, Auckland, and I for one can’t wait to see it on the big screen. I predict it will be an important, accolade-winning piece of NZ cinematography, and that it will be a significant artistic and commercial success. Hopefully too, a prophetic mainstream publisher will republish the novel as a movie tie-in. A hardcopy version, including the novel-to-film story and behind the scene’s photographs (from the filming) would be great, but then that’s probably a wish to far!
Filming begins late this year, but in the meantime you can follow the novel-to-film story as Mike blogs the journey – The Interminable Moon (the agony and ecstasy of getting a movie up…) – here – the first installment is here. The movie has previously been mentioned on this blog here and you can watch an early promotional video.
This is good news. It's been a long haul getting the thing up and running, so I'm sure Mike will be pleased to see another step in the process!
